TOGETHER
WE’RE
TEARING

The goals of the Tear the Paper Ceiling campaign are to:

Raise awareness of STARs as an overlooked group of workers that deserves intentional consideration and action from employers.
Frame the paper ceiling as a barrier to economic prosperity for STARs, employers, and our country that must be solved for our labor market to work.
Motivate collective action toward adopting skills-first hiring practices and policies as the way to create upward mobility for STARs and solve workforce challenges for employers.

Hiring leaders are taking notice

94%

of employers say they'd hire candidates without bachelor’s degrees if their skills are evident.¹

72%

say the idea that you need a bachelor’s degree to have job-ready skills is biased, unfair, or should change. ¹

77%

are considering STARs for more roles than they were 3–5 years ago. ¹

32%

have already changed degree requirements on at least one job description. ¹

I pledge to

Tear
the Paper Ceiling

I am a STAR. My skills are real. My experience is valuable. I pledge to see myself clearly and define myself not by what's missing from my resume, but by everything I have to offer.

I pledge to own my story and to speak openly about the skills I've built through work, training, and life experience.

I pledge to stand with the community of 70+ million workers in America like me, and to support them by sharing my own lessons from encountering and overcoming barriers.

I pledge to tear the paper ceiling, to see the world beyond it, and to let all STARs shine.

I support STARs, and acknowledge that I play a role in breaking down the barriers they face. I pledge to recognize the untapped potential of 70+ million American workers who are STARs.

I pledge to help shatter stereotypes and misconceptions about people who build skills outside of a bachelor’s degree.

I pledge to recognize the untapped potential of the STARs in my workplace, and to value job candidates for the skills they have rather than where they built those skills.

I pledge to tear the paper ceiling, to see the world beyond it, and to let STARs shine.

I support the 70+ million American workers who are STARs, and acknowledge that I play a role in breaking down the barriers they face.

I pledge to help shatter stereotypes and misconceptions about STARs, and to define everyone by the skills and experience they have rather than by what's missing.

I pledge to recognize the untapped potential of the STARs in my life, and to vocally support career pathways for STARs in my own workplace or community.

I pledge to tear the paper ceiling, to see the world beyond it, and to let STARs shine.

Thanks for signing the pledge.
